MP pledges support for town's threatened Post Office service

By Nub News Reporter 12th Apr 2025

THURROCK MP Jen Craft has spoken up in support of South Ockendon's Post Office announced following news that all 108 of the branches the service currently directly owns and runs will be franchised - including the one on Derwent Parade.

She says: "I understand that people will be concerned by this announcement, as I know how important this post office's in-person services are for residents, including things like cash deposits and withdrawals and driving license applications.

"Since the Post Office announced it was reviewing the branch in South Ockendon, I've been campaigning to save it – and I'm determined to ensure this branch is protected under the new model.

"I'm also committed to ensuring that the full range of services are still available in the local community, and will be exploring every option available to achieve this.

"I'll be working with the Post Office, Communication Workers Union, and ministers to properly understand the full impact of these changes on the future of the branch, including what this means for people currently employed there.

"My priority is ensuring that these changes deliver a secure and sustainable post office branch in Ockendon, so the services that local residents rely on are still available."
