EAST Thurrock MP James McMurdock recently visited Bulphan Church of England Academy to celebrate its pupils' enthusiastic participation in UK Parliament Week.
Mr McMurdock was welcomed by Pupil Parliament Lead Mr Hughes, as well as the Headteacher, Mr Dickson.
During his visit, he was shown the school's historical archives, including photographs of pupils from the 1920s, and records of every headteacher since the school's founding in 1853. He praised the school for keeping its heritage alive and for helping today's pupils understand their place in a long line of Bulphan pupils.
The children showcased the work they had completed for UK Parliament Week, including a series of highly persuasive speeches from the upper school, arguing the case for a four-day school week.
Mr McMurdock commended the pupils' confidence and the clarity of their arguments, calling their performances "incredibly impressive, and a credit to the teaching team."
He also visited the Academy's new eco-garden, where the school had been awarded their Level 1 RHA School Gardening Award. They have already begun growing peas, garlic and a range of other vegetables, and Mr McMurdock highlighted the project as a great example of hands-on learning and environmental responsibility.
He said: "I had a fantastic time visiting Bulphan Church of England Academy. The children's enthusiasm and knowledge, whether speaking about Parliament or delivering persuasive speeches, were truly inspiring. It is wonderful to see a school that treasures its rich village history while also giving pupils new opportunities to learn and lead."
"Bulphan's long history makes its ongoing commitment to fostering democratic understanding even more special. The school community should be incredibly proud of what the children are achieving."
