THE Thurrock-based team working on the proposed Lower Thames Crossing may not be everyone's cup of tea and they have been involved more than a little controversy through their work over recent years - but this week they were the apple of the eye of a group of borough folk.

The Thurrock branch of the Re-engage charity, which helps combat loneliness among the area's older folk through social gatherings was hosted by crossing staff for a special event.

Guests were treated to a Valentine's tea party at the offices of the Lower Thames Crossing.

Regional organiser Loraine Coleman said: "A very big thank you to Lucy Hantson and her team for their generosity.

"We celebrated Joyce's 97 birthday and had a lovely game of bingo with staff member Andrew.

"Such a wonderful afternoon of fun and laughter.

"Thank you to all our volunteer drivers for making this event happen driving our guests and looking after them as always with love and care."
