A THURROCK nursery where two children 'escaped' and roamed around local streets has been closed down by inspectors while the incident is investigated.

As reported on Thurrock Nub News at the weekend, two three-year-old children managed to crawl under a fence at the Acorns pre-school in Chadwell St Mary.

Due to alert nearby residents and a window cleaner the two children were returned safely to the school, though one had wandered almost half a mile and probably crossed a road three times.

The incident has caused widespread concern and was reported to Ofsted, who have conformed they are mounting an investigation.

A spokesperson for Ofsted told Nub news: "I can confirm that the provider is currently suspended.

"We continue to make our enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident."

It is believed the investigation may take several weeks.

Nub News has invited the owner and manager of the nursery to comment but has received no response.
