A THURROCK mum and her nine-year-old daughter are planning to make October special by raising funds and awareness for a leading local mental health charity.
Joanne Wilson and daughter Ruby plan to complete a 900 length pool swim and cycle 100 miles during the month and are already well into their challenge.
Joanne says: "We will be raising funds for Thurrock & Brentwood Mind all through October. I chose Mind as it is a charity close to my heart. I have had my own personal experience with mental health issues, and I have used the services that Mind provide to help me get through the tough times. I continue to suffer with social anxiety every day. Recently we lost a dear family friend called Ian, due to his mental health problems. He struggled living in the world.
"We want to raise awareness of this amazing charity and the great work they do. We also want to raise some money for them, so they can continue to provide the crucial support they give to people who are struggling with their mental health.
"Ruby and I will be swimming and cycling all through October. Our achievements will be added together to combine 900 lengths and 100 miles. Please look out for us around the streets of Thurrock and give us a wave, and a donation if you can."
You can follow the dynamic duo's progress as Joanne is keeping a daily log on her Just Giving page, where you can also make donations.
