A PLANNING application has been submitted detailing the building of 16 new homes on the site of the now demolished Aveley library.

The site, on Purfleet Road, was cleared by Thurrock Council in 2021.and now details of the plans for 16 one and two bedroom apartments in two buildings have been submitted to the council's planning department for approval.

The site viewed from Purfleet Road.

They will consist of a two-storey building fronting Purfleet Road and an L-shaped two and three storey building to the rear of the site with associated landscaping and parking.

A consultation process prior to the application brought comments made in relation to the proposed use and existing infrastructure and some concerning loss of light or privacy. The developers say these potential issues have been addressed through balcony layout changes and a daylight and sunlight assessment.

The full application can be viewed via this link, and the planning portal will also allow residents to comment on the scheme. A full design statement with plans, drawings and CGI images of how the site will look can be found via this link.

Facilities at the old library were transffered to the nearby newly-build Aveley Community Hub.
