A FORMAL application has now been submitted to Thurrock Council to build up to 187 new homes off Rectory Road in Orsett.

The proposal covers 13 hectares, split between plots to the East and west of Rectory Road that currently comprises agricultural farmland, grazing land and boundary hedgerows and trees.

The majority of the site sits in the green belt and includes an area of land that is utilised by the orsett Showground.

The applicants, Colchester-based M Scott Properties Ltd, say they have submitted the bid following a public consultation event at the village cricket club in February this year. A website was also created with an online consultation running from 21 February 2025.

Objections have come from more than 80 per cent of those people who responded to the consultation.

Fifty per cent of the new homes are described as 'affordable housing', with five self-build/custom-build plots available.

The full planning statement, which says the scheme has been downsized from an original intent to build 210 homes, can be read via this link
