FIREFIGHTERS have been tackling a fire at the Port of Tilbury this afternoon where four HGV cabs and two cars were ablaze.

A large plume of smoke rode from the site, amid reports on local social media of an explosion and fire that happened around 12 noon.

Essex Fire and Rescue Service have been on scene and reported at 1pm: "Firefighters have the fire under control. Crews are working with staff from Tilbury Docks to keep the area safe so the fire can be safely extinguished."

An hour later they reported: "The fire is completely out and firefighters have left the scene. The fire started accidentally."
