Police get busy on the borough's roads

POLICE have been busy in Grays dealing with speeding motorists and arresting a suspected motorbike thief who is now due in court.
The 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the theft by officers from Neighbourhood Policing Team on 17 February in Argent Street.
The arrest happened just five minutes after officers received community intelligence to say he was in the neighbourhood.
Acting Sergeant Ellie Hawkins says: "We need intelligence from our communities to help keep our neighbourhoods safe. So if you have information about someone who is involved in criminal activity, please tell us what you know.
"You can contact us online, or by ringing 101. If you wish to remain anonymous, then give your information to the independent Crimestoppers charity."
The man was charged and will attend Basildon Magistrates' Court on Friday, 9 April.
Meanwhile the Essex force's Speed Enforcement Team has been out and about in the town, engaging with residents, dog walkers, cyclists and pedestrians, and keeping road safety firmly in focus.
Police enforcement work supports Vision Zero - the long term force project aiming for no road deaths in Essex by 2040 or sooner.

A statement says: "To get there, we need education, engagement and enforcement to work hand in hand.
"We always appreciate the information you share with us. Your reports about anti-social driving help us target hotspots and to act where it's needed most.
"Enforcement plays a vital role in protecting everyone who uses our roads. It helps deter dangerous driving, reduces casualties, and ensures that those who choose to ignore speed limits or drive irresponsibly are held to account. Every interaction, every stop and every recorded offence contributes to safer communities.
"In Thurrock last week, officers captured 137 speeding drivers on camera and in Grays a top speed of 53mph in a 30mph limit was recorded in Brentwood Road — a clear reminder of why our presence on the roads matters.
"Together, with your support, we can make Essex's roads safer for everyone."
