Police review incident after Taser discharge in Grays town centre

A MAN was tasered by police officers who were concerned as they investigated reports that he was carrying a weapon.
The incident happened today (Tuesday, 18 March) on clarence Road in Grays town centre and footage of the incident has featured on local social media.
Police have responded to a Thurrock Nub News request for information and, while a review of the officer's action is ongoing, a statement has been released, stressing that the man recovered from the incident and he has required no aftercare.
Superintendent Timothy Tubbs said: "We received reports of a man who was reported to be in possession of a weapon in High Street, Grays, at about 1.35pm.
"A description of the suspect was provided and officers in the town centre located them within six minutes of the call.
"A man was stopped to be searched. In the subsequent interaction a Taser was deployed.
"The man was given appropriate aftercare by officers following the discharge and did not require further medical care.
"As with every Taser deployment we will review the incident and the circumstances leading up to it."
