A NINE-year-old girl has taken a lead role in a petition to get a Thurrock Council library reopened.

Though the council has reopened several of its branches, the one in Blackshots remains closed which has prompted the creation of an online petition by youngster Polly Cornelius - supported by mum Claire - to get its doors reopened.

They have set up an online petition that has already been supported by more than 200 people.

Polly says: "Hi, my name is Polly Cornelius and I am 9 (almost 10!) years old.

"The library has always been one of mine and many others' favourite places, being our preferred library to other, bigger libraries such as Grays.

"I love going there and usually visit every week with my family.

"Many of my friends go too, particularly as it is very close to our school.

"We cannot understand why the council has opened other libraries in Thurrock yet leave ours closed.

"There are many ways that it can open safely but they are apparently unaware of these.

"I am certain the library staff would be able to keep the library clean and safe for everyone.

Please sign our petition and help us in opening it as soon as possible."

You can sign the petition here.
