A CAMPAIGN by a young borough girl has resulted in Thurrock Council announcing that it is to reopen Blackshots library.

As reported on Thurrock Nub News last month nine-year-old Polly Cornelius - supported by mum Claire - launched a petition to get its doors reopened.

She won widespread plaudits for her actions and the petition was supported with 649 signatures.

Now proud mum Claire has reported: "I have received an email from Thurrock Council telling me that Blackshots library will be re-opening for two days a week from the week commencing 28th September at the latest.

"This is fantastic news and I am sure it wouldn't have happened without this petition.

"I have replied saying that whilst this is great news, it needs to be open more than this.

"This is the reply: 'Please bear with us. Two days a week will be great start. I fully understand your disappointment but we are working with limited staff and increased workload with very strict cleaning regimes to implement.'

"I will keep contacting them regarding this and keep you updated."
