THURROCk Council's leader has praised a local contractor for its work improiving the state of a local riverside path.

The path by the Thames from Coalhouse Fort in East Tilbury to Grays has been revitalised and cleaned up by a team from Chadwell-based firm Henderson and Taylor.

The firm, long-running contractors to Thurrock Council, is currently in the middle of a five year deal with the council for highways maintenance, worth £70 million.

Its team of workers have cut back overgrown vegetation on and around the Right of Way on the path and sprayed the road to reduce weeds returning. A second team picked up litter.

The council says the company volunteered to carry out the clean-up in support of the council's Civic Pride Campaign, launched by Reform leader Cllr Richard Bingley.

Cllr Bingley said: "We've been out talking to local people and listened to the improvements they want to see. Improving the coastal path was one of the changes they highlighted, and a big thank you to Henderson and Taylor who volunteered to support our Civic Pride campaign like this."

The council says future boroughwide projects under the civic pride banner include new playgrounds across the borough, an expansion to the CCTV network to help crack down on fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour, investment in green spaces around the high-rise blocks of flats in Chadwell St Mary and improving the park and community facilities in Grays Town Park.
