POLICE have been praised for the way they acted proactively to clam,p down on potential trouble and anti-social behaviour in Tilbury.

Parts of the town are still subject to a dispersal order implemented by the police yesterday (Friday, 8 August) after police were alerted to the possibility of large gatherings of people to attend a party organised in the town.

It was reported hundreds of people were planning to travel from London after being invited on social media by the event organisers.

However, the dispersal order, allied to a significant police presence in the town last night, appears to have dampened the party spirit and kept any trouble at bay. Police patrolled the town and mounted a watch on the train station.

The move was welcomed by local ward councillor John Allen who had a walk around the town last evening to check things out as well.

He said: "It's good to see a strong police presence at Tilbury Town Station and knowing that a dispersal order is in place! Thank you to Essex Police in Thurrock for their protection of our town."
