THURROCK'S local businesses have been commended by Cllr Vikki Hartstean, Cabinet Member for Children's Services and Education, following their inspiring efforts to ensure the borough's vulnerable children receive a gift this Christmas.
On Tuesday 2 December, Cllr Hartstean paid a visit to Impulse Leisure in Blackshots, who have been collecting donations of toys and gifts at their leisure centre sites. She personally thanked staff for their contributions that will help to bring festive cheer to vulnerable children across Thurrock and those at Little Havens Children's Hospice.
On Wednesday 3 December, Cllr Hartstean then paid a visit to Coryton Power Station, who has donated £1000 to the Give a Gift collection, which will be used to buy gifts for Thurrock's vulnerable children.
A number of other businesses have generously supported the initiative, including HW Wilson, who donated £1000, £105 in Amazon vouchers and toys for children; SEIB Insurance, who donated £500, and Viridor Thameside/Kanadevia Inova, who donated toys.
The Give a Gift campaign runs until Friday, 12 December, and people can still get involved by donating to the online collection pot.
Cllr Vikki Hartstean, cabinet member of children's services and education, said: "I can't thank each and every one of the local businesses enough for their outstanding generosity that will help to make sure our borough's most vulnerable children can wake up to a gift on Christmas day.
"It was heart warming to hear about the social value work both organisations do all year round. It's a fantastic example of the community spirit that defines Thurrock.
"I encourage everyone who can, to donate a gift and help make a difference. Together, we can ensure every child feels special during this festive season."
Karl Hayes, Managing Director at Impulse Leisure, said: "We are proud to once again support the 'Give a Gift' campaign, which helps to make sure every child in our borough can experience the magic of Christmas.
"At Impulse Leisure, we are strong believers in the power of our communities. We want to thank everyone who donated to our leisure sites; you've helped to support a heartfelt cause that will spread joy to those who need it most."

Daniel Hobson, Plant Manager at Coryton Power Station, said: "The whole team at Coryton are extremely proud to support the 'Give a Gift' campaign again, which helps to make sure every child in our local community receives a gift during the festive period."
