Probe launched to find cause of swan's death
By Nub News Reporter 15th Oct 2026
AN investigation has been launched to discover what caused the death of a swan, after its body was discovered by the Mardyke river today (Thursday, 15 October).
The bird had visible wounds on it, which has led to conjecture it may have been attacked by young people, who have previously been observed in the area firing catapults at animals.

Its body was recovered by staff from Whites Stables on Well Lane, North Stifford, after they were alerted by a resident who lives on Stifford Hill.
The animal was collected by the South Essex Wildlife Hospital at Orsett, where a post mortem will be held to confirm the cause of death.
