Quick police response leads to arrest after sexual asssult
POLICE officers called to reports of a sexual offence in Corringham arrested a suspect within an hour of the 999 call.
A statement from Essex Police said: "We were called to reports of a teenage girl being approached and followed by a stranger in Gordon Road at about 4.45pm on Wednesday, 9 August.
"After calling us and giving a description of the suspect we sent officers to the scene.
"The suspect was identified as still in the area and attempted to evade police officers through nearby gardens and cycling away on a stolen bike, but was quickly arrested.
"He was arrested on suspicion of sexual touching, attempted robbery and theft. It was also discovered the suspect was wanted on recall to prison."
Temporary Sergeant Melissa Clarke added: "This arrest was made possible by the quick work of our criminal investigation officers, local policing team, control room colleagues and our partners in Thurrock Council's CCTV control room.
"This offender is now returning to prison and our investigation will continue into establish the facts of this case."
