Children create VE Day tribute to heroes

By Rachael Hearn 29th Apr 2025

CHILDREN and teachers at Quince Tree Day Nursery in South Ockendon have made their own memorial that they have put up outside the nursery to commemorate our heroes and remember VE Day 80 years ago.

A nursery spokesperson said: "Teachers looked at different ways in which they could explain what VE Day is to the children and as the children love getting creative they assisted in helping to make a brilliant solider and some bunting to commemorate our heroes while chatting about VE Day and what is.

"The soldier was made by drawing around one of the children and was decorated with some lovely stickers.

"He highlights and recognises the bravery of our heroes. We will always remember them and we will always honour those who gave their lives for us."
