SOUTH Ockendon Village Social Club doubled up as a race track for a hugely successful fundraising night for Thurrock branch of the Re-engage charity.

Saturday's (10 October) event, organised by Paula Mullooly, raised £1,164.60.

It was hosted by compère, David, from Racenight UK and volunteers ran the tote.

Regional organiser Loraine Coleman said: "Thank you also to the volunteers, guests, family and friends for supporting Re-engage Thurrock.

"The hard work, dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteers shone through, and everyone had such a wonderful time.

"This is an amazing amount of money that will enable us to continue to provide free monthly tea parties to our local elderly community to alleviate loneliness and isolation. The volunteers and guests are very grateful."

"We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Susan and all the members of South Ockendon Village Social Club for their incredible generosity in allowing us to use their wonderful hall free of charge. Your kindness and support mean so much to us and have helped make this event such a success.

"The £1,164.60 raised will make a real difference to the lives of our lovely elderly guests, helping us continue to provide our free monthly tea parties, where older people can enjoy friendship, laughter and companionship while helping to combat loneliness and isolation.
