Remembering our heroes of the East

THURROCK Museum volunteers will be manning a new exhibition today (Saturday, 2 August) at the Thameside Complex.
It coincides with the upcoming 80th anniversary of VJ Day, which will be celebrated in the borough with a ceremony at the Rose Garden, Wingfield Drive, Orsett, on Saturday, 16 August at 11am.

The exhibition at the Thameside is called 'Tell Them of Us', reflecting the Kohima Epitaph which has become synonymous with VJ Day.
The exhibition recalls stories of local people who served in the Far East during World War Two and will be staged on the ground floor at the Thameside on Orsett Road, Grays (RM17 5DX).
It will run until Thursday, 4 September. Details can be found via this link.
The Kohima Epitaph is a well-known verse inscribed on the memorial of the 2nd British Division in the Kohima War Cemetery in India.
It reads: "When you go home, tell them of us and say, For your tomorrow, we gave our today."
