POLICE are investigating an aggravated burglary at a Corringham home where an armed man threatened a family and left one person with a head injury.

The incident happened in Laburnam Drive shortly after 10am yesterday (Thursday 6 April) when the armed man entered a home.

Inside a man sustained a head injury that resulted in him requiring treatment at hospital.

A police statement says: "Thankfully, one of the occupants was able to leave the home and alert us to the incident. The intruder then left the home.

"Officers quickly arrived at the scene and carried out a search of the area but no one matching the description of the suspect could be located.

"No arrests have been made at this stage and we're following a number of lines of enquiry."

DI Mark Gridley, who is leading the investigation, said: "We're making good progress since this incident was first reported to us. Most importantly, the family are now safe and they are being supported.

"I would now urge anyone living in Laburnam Drive, Gifford Cross Avenue and Gifford Cross Road who has CCTV or doorbell footage of the area to get in contact with us. Specifically, we'd like to see footage taken in the area between 8am and 1pm.

"We believe we have identified a man of interest who was in the area at the time.

"He was wearing a long green jacket, grey trousers and a beanie-style hat.

"Anyone with information on the man or footage of him should let us know by submitting a report on our website where you can use our online Live Chat service available Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) between 10am-9pm.
