A CEREMONY took place to mark the completion of works that have brought improvements to Tilbury Civic Square.

New footpaths, roads, flowerbeds, green areas, landscaping and streetlights have transformed the way the square looks and made access for public transport, cars and parking better for residents and shops.

This includes works around the war memorial that include new benches, paving and flowerbeds and planters. Funding came from the Tilbury Towns Fund board and the work was managed by Thurrock Council.

The ribbon to mark the completion of works was officially cut by Deputy Mayor, Cllr Steve Liddiard - a Tilbury councillor.

Cllr Liddiard, said: "This has been nothing short of transformational for Tilbury Civic Square. It not only looks better, but it is also now easier than ever to get to and around by both public transport and car.

"Tilbury Civic Square is at the heart of Tilbury and it is only right that the significant improvements we will see through the Tilbury Town Deal start here.

There is more to come including improvements to Tilbury Library and Hub, and the creation of a new Youth Zone in Anchor Fields."

The ribbon cutting was followed by a reception at Tilbury Library and Community Hub.
