Smoke rising from fields close to Coalhouse Fort

POLICE have closed roads into East Tilbury as firefighters tackle a blaze in fields believed to be close to Coalhouse Fort.

A statement from Essex Fire and Rescue at 2.20pm today (Sunday, 14 August) said: "Firefighters are on scene at a field fire near Princess Margaret Road, East Tilbury, which is affecting grassland and heath.

"Please avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed if you are being affected by the smoke."

Updates to follow.

Reports have also been received of a field fire on the heath at Chadwell St Mary.
