PROCEEDS of this year's Thurrock Cycle Marathon, plus a top up from organisers the Rotary Club of Mardyke Valley, were distributed at a presentation dinner this week.

There were a number of recipients there on the night of the dinner, held at Ye Old Plough House on Brentwood Road.

Among them were members of local charity Re-engage, which received £250.

Its regional organiser Loraine Coleman said: "This fabulous donation will go such a long way to reducing isolation and loneliness with our Thurrock elderly residents where we can further enrich their lives with tea party's, companionship and special treats..

"Like all the recipients we are very grateful to the Rotary Club and once again thank them for their fantastic work in Thurrock."

Club president paul Luke said: "Once again it was a great pleasure to play host to the people who do so much for others across Thurrock. The cycle marathon was another enjoyable day and it is amazing to think how much money this event has raised for the people of Thurrock over more than two decades. Long may it continue."
