YET another teenager from Thurrock has been honoured by the Jack Petchey Foundation community awards for their work in the borough community.

Recently Thurrock Nub News reported on two local teenagers whose special efforts have been singled out for praise and we are delighted to bring you news of a third.

The most recent winner is Ruta Dubinskaite, 19, from Thurrock. Ruta attends USP College and since she's been studying from home due to the lockdown, Ruta has been volunteering as an Emergency Medical Technician with St John Ambulance.

As part of her course at the college, Ruta has been learning basic and advanced life support for patients in the pre-hospital emergency setting, and the skills to perform essential medical procedures to save a patient's life.

Ruta's role with St John Ambulance includes working as part of an ambulance crew.

Suzanne Perry, Ruta's teacher and nominator, said: "Ruta is a very warm, supportive and perceptive student who is an asset to St John Ambulance, and I think her enthusiasm and willingness to volunteer should be commended."

Ruta said: "It was such a surprise, I wasn't expecting it. I wish everyone persevering and contributing to their communities could receive recognition like this, especially those who are 100% more deserving. It was quite humbling and it's given me encouragement and more zeal to contribute more and work harder."

Ruta was awarded £50 from the Foundation and a letter from Sir Jack to congratulate her on going the extra mile to help others in this lockdown.

Trudy Kilcullen MBE, CEO of the Jack Petchey Foundation said: "At the Jack Petchey Foundation, young people inspire us all the time with the incredible work they do and that has not stopped in the current situation.

"We want to recognise more young people across London and Essex doing inspirational things to help their community and hope these Community Awards will motivate others and truly showcase the positive things young people do every day."

Members of the public wishing to nominate a young person should click here and fill out the form to submit their nomination including contact details and reason for nominating.
