AFTER public concern was raised this morning about an elderly man dressed in a schoolgirl's uniform wandering around Stanford-le-Hope, police tracked him down and discovered him to be a man in his 80s from Chelmsford.

Thurrock Nub News reported on the issue this morning after being contacted by residents worried about his motives as he was seen close to two local schools.

He later drove away in a car and its details were noted and forwarded to police, with additional concerns expressed about the nature of his driving as he mounted the kerb on Butts Lane a couple of times.

Police were able to locate and stop the vehicle. The driver was tested but found not to be under the influence of drink and drugs.

Police have issued the following statement: "We were called to reports of a man dressed in school uniform in Stanford-le-Hope at 10.20am on Thursday, 9 September.

"Officers have carried out enquiries and attended an address in Chelmsford and spoken to a man in his 80s.

"No criminal offences have been identified and we are now reviewing if any welfare or safeguarding measures or referrals are necessary.

"Officers and PCSOs have carried out patrols in the Stanford-le-Hope area to provide reassurance.
