A MAN is spending a second night in Basildon & Thurrock Hospital after an incident in Stanford-le-Hope in which he was assaulted.

Essex Police received reports at around 9.45pm yesterday (Friday 26 June) about a disturbance outside an address in Nursery Road in the town.

A statement says: "We received information that had been taken to hospital with a head injury after being assaulted by a woman known to him.

"We arrested a 29-year-old woman on suspicion of GBH and she has since been released on bail.

"The man continues to remain in hospital in a stable condition."

Neighbours have spoken about the incident and told of a man covered in blood fleeing the area.
