THERE was a sense of triumph and delight as staff and parents at St Clere's School in Stanford-le-Hope watched students opening their GCSE results.

A statement from the school said: "Despite all the challenges this year group have faced, they have came out 'on top' with some amazing results.

"Some highlights were, 74% of pupils achieving good passes in both English & maths with 86% in English and 83% in maths.

"There were particularly strong results in chemistry, physics, biology, sport and catering. Nine pupils achieved a Grade 9 in maths and eight Grade 9s were achieved in English."
