A SERVICE took place today (Saturday, 2 April) in Grays Town Park to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the start of the Falklands conflict.

The event was organised by the Thurrock branch of the Royal British Legion who took the opportunity to host a day-long stall in the park promoting the work of the Legion.

The service was led by the Rev Canon Darren Barlow and an address, and the appropriate epitaphs, were read by Rod Oakley, chair of the local Legion.

Members of Thurrock Sea Cadets, TS Dragon, mounted the honour guard. The Last Post and Reveille were played by Dave Honeywell, Musical Director of Grays Town Band.
