LED by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the nation paid tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore this evening with a community clap.

And at the Port of Tilbury the message of thanks for his service and inspiration shone out from the two Saga cruise ships currently laid up at the port.

The crews did their bit by lighting up the sides of the two huge ships to acknowledge the 100-year-old fundraiser who died with coronavirus yesterday (Tuesday, 2 February).

The centenarian's family said they were "incredibly touched" by the event tonight and "took part with huge love in their hearts".
