FIREFIGHTERS spent more than two hours dousing a fire that broke out at a metal processing site at Tilbury docks last night (Thursday, 12 September)..

The alarm was raised at 6.42pm when the fire was discovered at the EMR site and six crews from Orsett, Grays, Basildon, Billericay and Corringham fire stations attended.

Crews worked to use an aerial ladder platform to extinguish the fire affecting approximately 100 metres x 30 metres of scrap metal alongside berths 13 to 18.

Firefighters worked alongside site staff to break up the material, using diggers to extinguish the fire in sections and the blaze was out by 9pm.

An investigation will be carried out today to determine the cause of the fire.
