THE Royal Mail sorting office serving Stanford-le-Hope and Corringham has been closed and its staff moved to Basildon.

Royal Mail says this is a temporary situation following the discovery of problems in the existing building in Corringham, which includes a customer collection point.

A statement from Royal Mail says: "We have temporarily moved the operation at Stanford delivery office to our site in Basildon.

"This decision was made following a structural assessment of the building which necessitated further investigation.

The affected building to the rear of the Post Office on St John's Way. Vehicle access is via Springhouse Road.

"By moving to Basildon, we will be able to provide a better work environment and facilities for our team while this work is ongoing, and also deliver for our customers.

"The customer service point will also be relocated to Basildon."

The sorting office in Basildon is at 25 East Square, SS14 1AA. Opening hours can be found via this link

Royal Mail added: "We offer various methods of redelivery if a person isn't in which means they don't have to visit the collection point.

"As standard, we offer Automatic Redelivery. You no longer need to pick up your parcels as we'll automatically redeliver your items the next working day.

"If that isn't suitable for the customer they can arrange other methods of redelivery, which includes arranging a collection at the local Post Office. More here: Redelivery │ Royal Mail Group Ltd.

It reads as:

Sometimes we can't deliver an item to you because nobody was there to sign for it, or if it was too big for your letterbox. We know you can't always get to your local delivery office to collect it, so we are happy to make a Redelivery:

  • free to your own address
  • free to another address in your postcode area
  • or free to your local Post Office® branch.
