FOSTER carers from across Thurrock came together on Friday (27 February) for a special celebration recognising the vital role they play in supporting some of the borough's most vulnerable children and young people.

The annual Foster Carer Celebration Event and Awards Ceremony was once again held at Ye Olde Plough House in Bulphan, where carers were thanked for the important work they do to provide Thurrock's looked-after young people with a stable, loving home.

Awards were presented by senior staff, alongside Cllr Vikki Hartstean, cabinet member for children's services, education and community safety, and Cllr Steve Liddiard, deputy mayor of Thurrock.

This year's honours included long‑service awards recognising carers from five years through to more than 25 years, as well as Unsung Hero Awards celebrating individuals who have gone above and beyond in their caring roles.

Cllr Hartstean said: "Our foster carers play a crucial role in supporting our children in care, and we are incredibly thankful for everything they do. Each of them contributes to creating safe, nurturing homes that help young people thrive, and that love truly deserves recognition.

"Despite how many amazing foster carers we have, like every other local authority across the country, Thurrock is still in desperate need of more carers.

"If you have the time and resources to offer a stable, loving home and provide our looked-after young people with a better start in life, please do come along to one of our online information sessions to find out how special fostering is."

Cllr Liddiard said: "It was a privilege to meet our amazing foster carers and celebrate the work they do.

"Their compassion and dedication have a life‑changing impact on children across Thurrock, and I'm pleased we were able to show them how grateful we are for the support they provide."
