Borough-based firm making an impact in sight and sound

By Nub News Reporter 9th Apr 2025

A BOROUGH-based company that has made a national impact is celebrating ten years of growth and success since moving to Thurock.

Arc Sound Ltd might not be a name on the tip of everyone's tongue in local circles, but the chances are that at an event or entertainment venue in the borough or further afield you may have benefitted from their skill and expertise.

The company, founded in December 2002 in Deptford as a rehearsal and recording studio, now offers one of the UK's leading independent full-service event production services, and prides itself on delivering to the highest standards.

At the helm of Arc Sound's success in live music and event production is its founder and director James Dougill, who has more than 30 years' experience as a sound engineer to some of the biggest global musicians.

Under his guidance, from those beginnings in South London, Arc Sound outgrew its original premises on New Cross Road, and moved to an old brick build warehouse a few streets away.

The journey was to continue upwards though.

Within a short period of time as the company's reputation grew it once again began to outgrow its home and James, and colleagues started looking for another property which would provide room to grow the business and security of tenure.

After viewing around a dozen 12 properties, the decision was made that Tilbury Park and Riverside in Thurrock best suited Arc Sound's near and mid-term requirements.

Relocation to Thurrock took place a decade ago and now all the company's main equipment storage, maintenance, preparation and sales operations are carried out at the Tilbury premises.

Additionally, it functions as the operating centre for its vehicles and trailer stages.

Being in Tilbury also brought new opportunities and creatively forged links.

James took an active interest in the rich history, preservation and adaptive reuse of Thurrock's riverside heritage.

Connections made through this interest brought about requests for Arc Sound to provide support for the Port of Tilbury's 75th anniversary of the Windrush landing.

Additionally, Arc Sound has played a role in providing staging and AV technical support for a number of Tilbury Port open days, with James saying: "We're very proud to have been involved with and supported these projects."

And work in the borough isn't just confined to Tilbury.

Entertainment is the name of the game for Arcsound

The team at Arc Sound work closely with Orsett Hall where its services and technical team have been used on numerous occasions to provide staging and services for events being held there.

Arc Sound has rigorous in-house testing and maintain high levels of health and Safety and industry approved standards. All Arc Sound technicians go through thorough training and induction, and James and directors are proud to have a loyal professional team on board.

Their commitment to quality in all aspects of the business has now been formally recognised, with the business achieving ISO 9001 accreditation.

James said: "This International standard in quality management, achieved in early 2024, is a positive acknowledgement of the high standards we strive to deliver and continually improve upon."
