TWO schools in Thurrock are taking on leading roles to promote and inspire young people to engage with music.

The mov e is part of a county-wide initiative by Arts Council England which has appointed nine new lead schools to the Greater Essex Music hub.

The schools will lead the way in inspiring young minds through music, supporting others, and sharing best practices across the region,

Thurrock's Thames Park School in Grays will play a major role in promoting music across secondary schools and nearby Woodside Primary School will take on a similar role for younger pupils.

Essex County Council's cabinet member for education excellence, life-long learning and employability, Cllr Tony ball said: "We know that music can play such an important part in a young person's life. It supports wellbeing and nurtures their musical talents.

"We are pleased to be able to formalise our partnerships with schools through the lead school appointments.

"We look forward to bringing many more music activities to as many young people as possible in Essex, Southend and Thurrock."
