Hydrogen is star of the show as port hosts major event
By Nub News Reporter 30th Apr 2026
THE Port of Tilbury is today (Thursday, 30 April) hosting a major event that could prove pivotal to the future of green energy in commercial settings.
The day will introduce and demonstrate hydrogen projects and activities being developed and underway in and around the port.
The event at the historic London International Cruise Terminal introduces the Tilbury Thames Hydrogen Hub where commercial hydrogen based zero emission activities and products are currently being deployed at both a UK leading port and the Lower Thames Crossing construction site.
Coinciding with the event is a visit from the Energy Observer, the world's first self sufficient hydrogen powered vessel and floating renewable energy laboratory. Visitors will have the opportunity to board and discuss the challenges of seawater electrolysis, hydrogen storage and fuel cell use at sea.
The event is being delivered by Toyota, Port of Tilbury and GeoPura in collaboration with partners including Lower Thames Crossing, JCB, Briggs, ULEMCO, TCP, Fuel Cell Systems, Intelligent Energy.

Delegates will see a range of technologies, including hydrogen production and storage equipment, and learn how they can adopt solutions from providers that are already delivering hydrogen based products and projects that displace fossil fuels and provide energy security and decarbonisation, as well as environmental and economic benefits.
