AS July begins to roll into August and September breaks on the horizon, thoughts across the borough are turning in the minds of many to the annual Orsett Show.

For more than 100 years the event on the first Saturday in September has been a must visit event for thousands of local people.

President of this year's Orsett Show is Paul Dale, chief operating officer at the Port of Tilbury, which is once again the event's main sponsor.

The show has been a part of Paul's life for many years and he is looking forward not just to the honour of being president on the day, but to sharing enjoyment of the show's many attractions with his family.

Paul and the organising committee have spent months getting things ready for this year's show, with the support of many local organisations – among them the Tilbury on Thames Trust.

The Trust's senior officer, Lucy Harris, is also steeped in show history and is particularly looking forward to meeting old friends in the heritage section of the show – many of whom are also linked to the Tilbury riverside rail station project she is championing.

Nub News popped down to the docks recently and met up with Paul and Lucy, who told us why the show is so special to them.

Mr Dale added: "The Port of Tilbury has long supported the Orsett Show and, like the Port, it is an important part of our local history.

"The committee works tirelessly to deliver a fantastic family day out each year. It is a privilege to serve as President, and I look forward to helping promote the Show and encouraging more young people to get involved, ensuring a strong future legacy."
