Special weekend - and more open days to come - at borough's historic heritage centre

A GATHERING of bike riders in Thurrock will return this coming weekend when Purfleet's Heritage and Military Centre hosts the annual Royal British Legion Riders bike event.

It will happen on Sunday (11 September) at the centre on Centurion Way from 10am to 3.30pm.

Riders from across the region will be in attendance, demonstrating their tibutes to our armed forces and their love of motorbikes.

There will be a number of comnpetitions for bikes, including 'best custom', best adventure bike' and best 'custom bike'.

The event is supported by the Royal British Legion, which will be present and will have memorabilia for sale.

Music, food and drink will also be available.

All proceeds from the event will go to the centre which is also about to host two othjer event days when admission to the museum will be free.

They will take place on Thursday, 15 september and Sunday 18 September.

The museum is housed in Magazine No 5, the building that houses a unique collection of artifacts and memorabilia from days gone by including many examples of how families lived across Thurrock.

As befits the Queen's Platinum Jubilee year, the centre also houses a unique Royal collection.
