Stepping out for Levi - duo on their way to Great Ormond Street

TWO Thurrock men stepped out early this morning on their fundraising walk for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Martin Smith and stepson Terry Garwood are spending today (Saturday, 27 June) walking the near 26 miles from Tilbury to Great Ormond Street to raise funds for the children's hospital.

Members of the family and friends will also be taking part in a static cycle ride today, riding more than 100 miles.

They have been inspired to make the trek because of the lifesaving care offered to Martin's four month old son Levi, who was born with severe Hydrocephalus (water on the brain).

You can read their story here.

His mum Christine was up early with Levi to see the duo off on their walk and after leaving Tilbury at 7am, they reported they were already through Grays town centre by 7.45. Just before 9.30am they reached Rainham. We will continue to update their progress during the day.

The pair were to have been joined by Terry and Levi's brother Tommy but unfortunately he couldn't make the trek because of illness.

Anyone wishing to support the effort can do so via a Just Giving page.
