THE Gateway Learning Community (GLC) hosted its annual Senior Citizens Meal at the Gateway Academy last week.

Students and staff from the education trust warmly welcomed senior citizens from the local community to an enjoyable and memorable evening.

The attendees were treated to a two-course meal, with the desserts specially prepared by talented Gateway Academy catering students, adding a personal and community-focused touch to the culinary experience.

Complimentary drinks were also provided.

In addition to the meal, the evening featured games of bingo and a raffle, adding an element of fun and excitement to the gathering.

A statement from the GLC said: "The event was not only about providing a joyful evening for the guests but also about supporting worthy causes.

"All proceeds from the night were dedicated to charity, with this year's beneficiaries being the Thurrock Foodbank and Cardiac Risk in the Young (C.R.Y.).

"These organisations play crucial roles in supporting those in need and raising awareness about important health issues, respectively.

"As a token of appreciation and to add a personal touch, each guest was presented with a plant as they departed.

"This thoughtful gesture, carried out by students or staff, served as a lasting memento of the evening and symbolised the care and community spirit at the heart of the event.

"The annual Senior Citizens Meal at the Gateway Academy exemplifies the commitment of the Gateway Learning Community to fostering connections, supporting charitable causes, and creating meaningful experiences for the local senior citizens."

 Comment after the event included:

"Thank you so much for a lovely meal and evening it was so nice and everyone made us feel so welcome. The pupils are a real credit to the Gateway and worked so hard to make certain that all the guests were looked after. Thank you again"

"...Last night will be in my memory forever. The young people serving and attending to us all, did a wonderful job making me feel very special..."

"...Would you please thank all your staff and children for a most enjoyable evening. The food was excellent and the raffle was great"
