FIVE men, including at least one teacher from a Thurrock secondary school, have been arrested as part of an ongoing Essex Police child sexual abuse investigation which is being undertaken by detectives in the force's Crime and Public Protection Command.

The investigation was launched after concerns were reported to police in relation to a teenage boy.

He is safe and continues to be safeguarded by specialist officers. His family is also being supported.

The boy is not a student at the school where the arrest took place.

Four men were arrested in Basildon on Wednesday, 14 February. They were arrested on suspicion of engaging in sexual activity with a child. They have been released on bail until late April and, in one case, early May.

One man was arrested in Basildon on suspicion of the same offence on Friday, 9 February and has since been released on bail with strict conditions until April.
