Three arrested after attempted early morning raid on Co-op

THREE men have been arrested following an attempted raid on the Co-op in East Tilbury in the early hours of this morning (Friday, 9 April).

Police were called at 1.30am after a witness reported seeing three men in balaclavas trying to break into the store at Stanford House, Princess Margaret Road.

Officers arrived ten minutes later and arrested two people. A third was found hiding below the till.

Two men both aged 36 and from Tilbury were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

A 22-year-old man from Stanford-le-Hope was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and possession of drugs.

They remain in custody for questioning.

Anyone who saw what happened but has yet to speak to officers, or has any information about the burglary, is asked to contact Grays CID quoting incident 59 of 9 April.
