THURROCK'S recorded number of cases of people who have been confirmed as having coronavirus has risen by its largest singal daily figure, by 27 to 172.

A number of deaths in the borough have now been attributed to the virus too, though no official figures have been forthcoming from local health organisations.

Nationally there are now 78,991 confirmed cases and the UK death toll is 9,875.

Meanwhile Thurrock Coronavirus Community Action - a group put together by Thurrock Council and Thurrock CVS - reports that more 630 hours of community work has taken place helping the elderly and vulnerable in the local community but more volunteers are still needed.

Anyone who is interested in helping can contact the group via its Facebook page.

That's also the place to go for any businesses who think they can contribute to the borough's community effort.
