THURROCK MP Jackie Doyle-Price was one of 55 Conservative MPs who rebelled and voted against the government in yesterday's debate about the new Covid-19 restrictions which come into force today.

The plan was approved by MPs with the majority of Labour and the opposition abstaining, but the decision by a significant number of his own party to reject the plans was the biggest rebellion so far during his time as Prime Minister.

Thurrock had been in Tier One prior to the lockdown but, despite pleas from Thurrock's Conservative-controlled council, was stepped up into Tier Two.

Stephen Metcalfe, whose East Thurrock and South Basildon constituency contains parts of Essex previously designated, and remains, in Tier Two, voted with the government.
