Thurrock to pay tribute to Merchant Navy

THE Merchant Navy's Red Ensign will be flown at Thurrock Town hall to mark Merchant Navy Day on Wednesday, 2 September.

Mayor Cllr Bill Cook says: "Thurrock is proud to fly the Red Ensign Flag and I would like to invite residents to join me at our 'Fly a Flag' ceremony to celebrate Merchant Navy Day. This is a national event where we remember the sacrifices and courage of the Merchant Navy personnel."

A flagraising ceremony will take place at 10am.
