Thurrock virus death tally hits 50

TWO more have been added to the recorded total of coronavirus-related deaths in Thurrock.

Local figures were first released on Friday but today's announcement shows two additional deaths, in Stanford West and Little Thurrock and Blackshots.

The latest totals are:

Aveley 5

South Ockendon 8

Grays and Chafford Hundred 5

Stifford Clays 6

Little Thurrock and Blackshots 7

Tilbury 5

Chadwell St Mary 3

Orsett, Bulphan and Horndon 3

Stanford West 1

Stanford East 2

Corringham and Fobbing 5

The number of borough residents infected with coronavirus has also risen, by five to 281.

Nationally the total number of recorded coronavirus-related deaths is up by 621 to 28,131 and almost 5,000 more people have been reported as having the virus, taking the total number to 182,260.

At today's Downing Street press briefing The briefing was led by Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick alongside Dr Jenny Harries, Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England.

The total number of fatalities from coronavirus in the UK, across all settings, now stands at 28,131. The death rate is starting to come down "very gradually and very slowly"
