TILBURY Band have qualified for the finals of the National Brass Band Championship contest and have also won 'promotion'.

On Saturday (16 March) the band competed in Section Two of a qualifying competition against 17 other brass bands in Stevenage with the hope of qualifying for the finals to be held in Cheltenham in September.

Under the expert guidance of conductor Melvin White the band was placed third, which not only gained them a place at Cheltenham, it also gave them a promotion to the First Section nationally. Brass bands have sections which are very similar to football leagues.

The band rehearse in their own hall in Dock Road, Tilbury and have been in existence since May 1919.

For further information about the band take a look at their website tilburyband.co.uk and their Facebook page.
