TRIBUTE has been paid to a leading member of Thurrock's Thurrock LGBTQIA+ Network after his recent death.

Anthony Camp was a central part of the network, described as 'a dear friend, active member of the Thurrock Community, a wonderful man to his family and also an amazing member of this Network family.'

A post on the network's social media page says: "He did not let illness stop him from doing the things he loved and walked from Shoebury to Leigh on Sea with the same perseverance, humour and kindness that made him who he was.

"He had an incredible life, helping others through nursing and inspiring others through his vast life experience. His positivity, despite life's challenges, was truly inspiring and he touched the lives of everyone he met.

"Tony was instrumental in leading Thurrock's First Pride and his legacy will live on through this, and in everything else he did.

"His role in the Network was invaluable and the way he pioneered the positive changes needed in Thurrock through social nights and the drop in groups will never be forgotten.

"He embodied the Network and helped to create a safer Thurrock for all, but especially for our community.

"We are incredibly proud that Tony was a part of our lives and he will continue to inspire us to create the safe and inclusive place that he saw Thurrock could be.

"Thank you Tony for everything you did for others, but thank you most of all for being yourself and showing us that kindness, passion and humour really are all you need to enjoy what you have. Our thoughts are with Ellen, who is a wonderful ally to our community and supported Tony throughout the Network's journey, as well as the rest of his family and loved ones."

Mr Camp's funeral will take place on Thursday, 11 December.
