Troublesome road is blocked again causing hours of disruption

A previous flood.
A previous flood.

THERE were several hours of disruption and frustration for residents in Wharf Road, Stanford-le-Hope and visitors and workers at the Stanhope Industrial estate this morning (Friday, 23 July).

The road was blocked, reportedly under the Wharf Road rail bridge.

Lorries and cars were backed up all along Wharf Road, which has become a notorious traffic blackspot.

There is only one way in and out of the industrial site for the workers there and traffic to the site which includes a Travis Perkins depot and the Squibb demolition company among a number of businesses.

After several hours, around 11am, it was reported the road had been cleared but residents have been told it will be closed over the weekend for repair work.

The road has been a long term blight on the lives of residents and a campaign is currently underway for the creation of a new access road from the DP World London Gateway port side of the bridge.
