Two believed to have been burned by chemical incident at Tilbury tower block

EMERGENCY services rushed to Tasmania House in Tilbury in the early evening today (Friday, 16 December) to deal with an incident involving a spillage of caustic drain cleaning fluid.

It is understand two people were affected by the spillage and have required treatment, which initially involved them being hosed down.

Details of the incident, which happened around 5.30pm are scarce but police, fire and ambulance service crews attended.

Nub News has contacted the emergency services for more information.

Initial reports on social media referred to the incident as a possible acid attack but these were quickly repudiated by Tilbury Cllr John Allen who said: "Some people are saying it's an acid attack!

"Please be assured that this is not the case!!

"It's believed two residents of Tasmania House have sustained chemical related injuries while using drain unblocker within their flat."
